Goose Challenge! Can We Make A V Formation?

When you see geese heading south for the winter flying along in a V formation, you might be interested in knowing that science has discovered why they fly that way. Research has revealed that as each bird flaps its wings, it creates an uplift for the bird immediately behind it. By flying in a V formation, the whole flock adds at least 71 percent greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own.

Whenever a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to go it alone. It quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front. When the lead goose gets tired, he rotates back in the V and another goose flies the point. (It pays to take turns doing hard jobs.)

The geese honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep up their speed.

And finally when a goose gets sick, or is wounded by gunfire and falls out, two other geese fall out of formation and follow it down to help and protect it. They stay with the goose until it is either able to fly again or dead, and then launch out on their own or with another formation to catch up with their group.

God has clearly created us for unity. This story is extremely challenging for me personally and I believe should be for every Christian. I wonder if God made geese to be so united, how much more does he want us united? We are the church, when it’s estimated that there are nearly 100,000- 300,000 sex slaves in the U.S., we are the church when organizations compete instead of unite for a cause, and we are the church when the average divorce rate in the Christians home is nearly the same as the rest of the world.

The past couple of days our speakers have been talking about this to us. As one of our speakers said yesterday, “the sooner you get it, the sooner you get it.” God can and will fully bless after we commit to being united for his cause. This is a lesson I’m learning and wanted to share. I do not want anyone to think I am condemning; rather, I am encouraging each of us to be committed to unity.

You are a world changer my friend!

God Bless,
-David
